How did the Forest act affect villagers? Discuss.

The Forest Act led to an increase in the hardship of the villagers across the country. The Forest Act affected the villagers in different ways which were:

• The practices like cutting wood for making houses, grazing their cattle, collecting fruits and roots, hunting and fishing became illegal.

• As a result, people started stealing wood from the forests. If they get caught by the forest guard, they have to pay the bribe to him.

• Women were worried the most as they had to collect fuelwood.

• People were also harassed by the police constables and forest guards for getting free food.
