Answer in detail

Write about the merits of unitary form of government.

A unitary form of government is defined as a sovereign state, where all the power is vested in the centre. Therefore, the centre has the greatest and final authority, and its administrative subsidiaries are only granted limited power by the centre. Its merits are as follows:

• It is well-suited for smaller countries. Governance is primarily enforced by a single body, thus it can tackle all issues and problems if the field of governance is not large.

• It is not as expensive as other Forms of Government, as there are few subsidiaries, and power lies with a single body.

• It allows for rapid and efficient problem-solving, decision-making and enforcement because all the decisions come from a single authority. There are few conflicts as there is no power-sharing in a unitary government.

• Amendments to the constitution are quick.

• The national body is under a uniform code of law and policy, and a uniform administrative setup.
