Why did some of the south Indian novelists give up the idea of translating English novels into native languages?

The India authors initially translated English novels in the native language. Such as Chandu Menon wrote first Malayalam novel Indulekha in 1889. Kandukuri Viresalingam wrote the first Telegu novel Rajashekhara Caritamu in 1878. But south Indian novelist gives up the idea of translating English novels as it could portray the real meaning.
