Beautiful mind, better than a fair complexion

In today’s society, complexion has become a parameter to judge beauty of a person. This trend is not something new since people from the past also believed the fairer the complexion of the person, prettier they are. It is just that this has started gaining much importance nowadays. To have a fair complexion is an obsession in our society.

It is often observed that people demand for fair brides in matrimonial columns. Complexion is a body feature which is not required to be modified just to suit someone’s need. There are communities across the world that has different complexions and each of them embrace it. Differentiation on the grounds of complexion is known as racism. Fair complexion has evidently become a marketing strategy for the sale of fairness creams. Companies hire fair models to advertise their product because of the psychology of the people that creams are supposed to make a person look fairer. This is a practice prevalent largely in the Indian society and that too among the females. In the West, people liked to be tanned and go for sun bath during the summer season on beaches. Complexion is just a part of the outer appearance. Rather what a person should look for in the others is a beautiful mind and their attitude towards life.

There are way too many things in life to think upon rather than just making comparisons based upon complexion of the person. This behavior of the society must be changed and everyone must remember that a beautiful mind is far more attractive than a fair complexion.

Accident at the road intersection

By George

Our school is located in one of the main areas of the city which is always packed with people and vehicles. Just outside the main gate of our school is a road intersection. Because of this road intersection, at the time when school gets over parents are asked to receive their children from the back gate because of the rush near the main gate. Only school buses use this route for departure and arrival.

The traffic in this area is so heavy that vehicles rush at full speed as soon as there is a green signal on the crossing. Because of this reason last week, in the morning, a bus coming at a great speed overturned when it braked suddenly. It was full of passengers because it was office hours and the accident blocked the road for hours. Since the road is visible directly from the window of our senior section students seated at the window informed the teacher and immediate rushed to help the people. Security guards and other staff members also rushed for help. At this time my friend and I decided that there were enough people to help the passengers but someone had to call the ambulance so that injured people could get immediate help. We rushed to the principal’s office and urged her to call the ambulance. Our Principal immediately took action and also asked the staff members to allow some patients who were not so severely injured to come into the school premises and use the infirmary for first aid.

With the support and efforts of the Principal, teachers, staff and the students we were able to help all the passengers on time. They were admitted to the nearest hospital and taken care of. It was because of the alertness and timely action that everyone was rescued safely with injuries and no casualties.
