Assertion: A fuse wire is always connected in parallel with the mainline.


Reason: If a current larger than the specified value flows through the circuit, fuse wire melts.


A fuse wire is always connected in series with the mainline. In series same current flows through the circuit. When current of higher values flows through the circuit, then the fuse wire melts to prevent the flow of current in the circuit, hence protecting the entire circuit and equipment connected to it.


Hence fuse wires are connected in series with the circuit so that, if heavy current flows, the fuse melts consequently breaking the circuit open.
