A delta is formed at the meeting point of sea water and river water. Why?

River water is a colloidal solution of clay. Sea water contains a number of electrolytes. When river water meets the sea water, the electrolytes present in sea water coagulate the colloidal solution of clay i.e. sea water neutralize the charge on colloidal particles and results in the precipitation of sand, clay etc thus, forming a delta.
