What is electrostatic shielding? How is this property used in actual practice? Is the potential in the cavity of a charged conductor zero?

Electrostatic shielding refers to the practice of making a region of space free of any electric fields. Electric fields can induce currents in delicate electronics. This is why such materials are kept inside a hollow conductor, in a region free from electric fields. In such regions, the potential is constant (not zero) and hence the change in potential is zero.
