Q58 of 293 Page 491

The length of a rectangle is twice its breadth and its area is 288 cm2. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

Let the length and breadth of a rectangle be 2x and x respectively

According to the question;

Area = 288 cm2

Area = length.breadth

x(2x) = 288 cm2

2x2 = 288

x2 = 144

x = 12 or x = – 12

x = 12 ( x cannot be negative)

length = 2.12 = 24 cm, breadth = 12 cm
