Q19 of 44 Page 1

How does ‘Right to Safety’ help consumers? Explain with an example.

Right to safety gives consumers the right to be protected against goods and services that can be dangerous to life or property.

Right to safety ensures that the consumers have a way to demand justice from those who can harm them.

For example,

A person, who has become disabled because of an inappropriate amount of anaesthesia used, can demand monetary compensation in the consumer court. Furthermore, if they don’t get justice in the lower consumer court, they can go to the higher courts as there is a three-tier court system in place.

Note:

Every consumer has right to be protected from practices that can prove harmful. Manufacturers have to keep in mind all the safety rules while undertaking production. But if there is a malfunction, consumers can go to court for compensation.
