Power sharing is desirable because it helps in reducing the possibility of conflict between social groups.


NOTE – Social conflicts tend to lead to violence and political instability. Therefore, power sharing in such a situation helps to ensure the stability of political order.


In the case of Sri Lanka, for example, the imposition of the will of the majority Sinhala community over the Tamil population soon turned it a severe conflict leading to a Civil War.
