Here quadrilateral ABCD so formed is a trapezium

Area of trapezium = 1/2 × (sum of parallel sides) × height

Here AB || DC

AB = 7 – 1 = 6 cm

CD = 10 – 4 = 6 cm

DG is the height of trapezium

DG = DF – GF

= 7 – 4

= 3 cm

DG = 3 cm

∴ Area of trapezium = 1/2 × (AB + CD) × DG

= 1/2 × (6 + 6) × 3

= 1/2 × 12 × 3

= 6 × 3

= 18 sq. cm

Area of trapezium ABCD = 18 sq. cm
