What are interstate water disputes? Why are such disputes raised? Give some examples of such disputes.

1. Interstate water disputes refer to the disputes between multiple states regarding the sharing of costs of the multipurpose projects and also sharing water and benefits yielded by them.

2. Such disputes arise when people from different states want to draw benefits from the same water resource. Two or more than two states claim their ownership over the water of the same river.


3. Examples of interstate water dispute are the Krishna Godavari dispute between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Ravi - Beas rivers water dispute between Punjab and Haryana, Cauvery river dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
