Write a note on the hydraulic structure in ancient India?

Various historical and archaeological records reveal that from ancient times, Indians have been creating different hydraulic structures like lakes, reservoirs, canals for irrigation etc.

1. One of earliest examples of hydraulic structures in ancient India dates back to first century B.C. The flood water of river Ganga was channelised through sophisticated water harvesting system near Allahabad.


2. During the reign of Chandragupta Maurya, irrigation systems, lakes and dams were built extensively.


4. Hauz Khas was constructed in New Delhi by Iltutmish in the 14th century in order to supply water to Siri Fort area.
