What problems did the cotton weavers face in India?

The various problems faced by the cotton weavers in India were:

• British government established direct control over the weavers. This prevented them to deal directly with the buyers.

• Also, weaving requires the labour of the entire family. All of them engaged in different processes of production.

• The prices they received from the company were extremely low. It was not enough for their livelihood.

• Around the 19th century, cotton industry developed in England which had the advanced technology in use. Because of this cotton weavers in India faced a major problem. The export market collapsed completely and the Indian markets were flooded with the British goods which were very cheap in price.
