What do you mean by a precipitation reaction? Explain by giving example.

Precipitation reaction: Any reaction in which an insoluble solid (called precipitate) is formed, is called a precipitation reaction.

For example: When a solution of silver nitrate is mixed with a solution of sodium chloride, a white precipitate of silver chloride is formed. Hence, it is precipitation reaction.
