ABCD is a rectangle. Find the values of x and y.

ABCD is a Rectangle. This means:

AB = DC and AD = BC

(∵ opposite sides of Rectangle are equal)


x + y = 30 and x – y = 14


Adding these two equations,


(x + y) + (x – y) = 30 + 14


⇒ 2x = 44


⇒ x = 22

Putting the value of x in equation x + y = 30, we get,

⇒ y = 30 – x


⇒ y = 30 – 22 = 8


⇒ y = 8


⇒ x = 22 and y = 8
