Draw a right triangle in which the sides (other than hypotenuse) are of lengths 4 cm and 3 cm. Then construct another triangle whose sides are 3/5 times the corresponding sides of the given triangle. (CBSE 2011)

1. Draw a line segment AB of 4 cm.

2 Take A as a center and make an angle of 90°. Draw a ray AR and by taking a radius of 3 cm, cut the ray at C.

3. Then, join CB. Thus, ABC is the required right-angled triangle whose sides other than hypotenuse are 4 cm and 3 cm.

Now, for the other triangle, steps of construction are as follows:

1. Draw a ray AX making an acute angle BAX at A.

2. Mark 5 points A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 of equal distance on the ray AX such that A A1 = A1A2 = A2A3, A3A4 = A4A5.

3. Now, join A3B and join the line through A5 parallel to A3B which intersect the extended line segment AB at B’. Now, draw a line segment parallel to BC which intersect at the extended line segment AC at C’.

Thus, triangle AB’C’ is the required triangle whose sides are 3/5 of the previous triangle.
