Why is road transport more useful than rail transport in India? Give reasons. (CBSE 2013)

“Roadways still have an edge over railways in India.” Support the statement with arguments. (CBSE 2016)

Road transport is more useful than rail transport because:

1. Constructing roadways is cheaper than constructing railways

2. Roads are more convenient for dissected and undulating topography

3. It requires no extra cost of loading or unloading because of the door-to-door service.

Note: Roadways is easier built across the diverse geography of India. It’s also a link between the rest three means of transport- railways, water, and airways.
