"The sex of a newborn child is a matter of chance and none of the parents may be considered responsible for it." Justify this statement with the help of a flow chart showing determination of sex of a newborn.  (CBSE 2013,2012)

“The sex of a newborn child is a matter of chance and none of the parents may be considered responsible for it” This statement is completely justified and can be proved as follows:

A male has XY chromosomes and a female has XX chromosomes.

1. If a sperm carrying X chromosome from male gets combined with the X chromosome from female, then the combination will be XX and child will be a baby girl.

2. If a sperm carrying Y chromosome from male gets combined with the X chromosome from female, then the combination will be XY, and the child will be a baby boy.

Since the sex of the child will depend on the fusion of the type of sperm with ovum. Since a human male produces both sperms in equal proportion, so there are 50% chances of each.
