How has the new ‘New Ruhr’ landscape emerged?

Ruhr region in Germany is famous for the iron and steel industry and 80% of steel in Germany is produced from this region. The prosperity of the Ruhr region is vested in the new industries such as Opel car assembly plant, chemical plants, universities and most famous coal and steel. This universities and emergent industries have led to the landscape in this ‘New Ruhr’ region.
