Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Goa etc are some of the modern towns and cities that were developed by the British.

1. Since the East India Company arrived from sea route they first landed on the coastal regions. This led to emergent of cities like Goa, Kolkata, and Chennai.


2. To set up factories they needed resources and workforce so cities like Mumbai and Surat developed.


3. They also developed military cantonments.
