These roads are of strategic importance in the northern and north-eastern border areas. It is constructed and maintained by the Border Roads Organisation. These roads connect the frontiers of the country. The main significance of border roads are:

• Security- It helps in maintaining the security of the country. In case of an emergency, forces can be immediately deployed along the roads. It also helps in the easy transfer of arms and equipment to conflict-affected areas.

• Accessibility- Borders of the country would be mostly located in the remote areas of the country. Thus the construction of border roads would be beneficial for getting better access to all the regions in the country. It is beneficial not just for the people, but also for the transportation of essentials to these areas.
