The formation of TELUGU DESAM PARTY by N T Rama Rao (NTR), a famous film actor in 1982 marked the beginning of a regional party in Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu speaking people were unhappy with the treatment they received from the Congress party at the Centre. The frequent changes in the state leadership led to the resentment among the people. They felt insulted by the dominant party. Hence the party was formed and supported by the people as it was the symbol of honor and respect among the people of the Telugu region. It was clear from this incident that the regional aspirations aroused from the feeling of being dominated by the other group led to the formation of the regional party.
