What is the role of the judge in the Criminal Justice System?

Criminal Justice system is an institution which comprises of police, the Public Prosecutor, the defence lawyer and the judge who tries to conduct the investigation, legal proceedings and solve the case in any way possible. In the Criminal Justice System, Judge plays an important role in making an impartial judgement after all the investigation is done. The Judge plays the following role in the Criminal Justice System which are-

• He has to make an impartial decision in an open court.


• It is his responsibility to listen to all the evidence and witnesses presented by the prosecution and the defence in the court.


• After hearing all the evidence and in accordance with the law, the judge makes a fair judgement and decides whether the person is guilty or innocent.


The form of punishment is decided for the individual who is found guilty. The punishment will vary from paying fine or person sent to the jail or both on the basis of what law mentions.
