“The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) many dirty tricks to win elections in Mexico”. Justify the statement with five examples.

The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) of Mexico won all the elections from 1930 till 2000. The opposition parties did contest elections, but never managed to win. The PRI used many dirty tricks to win the elections. These are

i. Government employees were forced to attend the party meetings of PRI.

ii. Teachers of government schools advised and sometimes forced the parents for casting their votes in favour of PRI.

iii. Media always criticized the opposition parties but ignored their good efforts.

iv. Sometimes the polling booths were shifted from one place to another without prior notice. Thus the party tried to hamper the election procedure.

v. Media largely ignored the activities of the opposition political parties.

vi. Being in power, the PRI spent a large sum of money to manipulate the elections and the campaign for the candidates.
