How has Public Distribution System helped to solve the problem of food security?

The food secured by the Government of India through Food Corporation of India is distributed via government regulated ration shops among the poorer section of the society. This is known as the Public Distribution System.

● Ration shops are now present in most localities, villages, towns and cities.


● Ration shops provide basic foodgrains and kerosene at a price lower than the market price


● Every family holding a ration card can buy the stipulated amount of these items.


● Launching of two important schemes - Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Annapurna scheme.
