Write a short note on the Champaran movement.

After the collapse of the Indigo production in Bengal, the planters shifted their focus to Bihar where they expanded their business even after the discovery of synthetic dyes. A peasant requested Mahatma Gandhi who came from South Africa to visit Champaran and see the troubles of the indigo cultivators. It was after this visit of Gandhi in 1917, the Champaran movement was started. The movement was against the Indigo planters who forced peasants to grow Indigo.
