Brain drain is not a bane for a developing country like India

Good morning to the esteemed judges, teachers and my fellow students present here. I, Karuna Bajaj, am here to speak against the topic, “Brain drain is not a bane for a developing country like India.’

Brain drain essentially refers to the emigration of highly educated and intelligent individuals to other countries rather than serving our own nation, symbolically represented as the draining away of precious brains. In a developing nation like ours, which needs such talented and highly educated individuals in the fostering of various economic and political sectors, it is a bane that a majority of them are shifting abroad because of better prospects when it comes to money and lifestyle.

Had these ‘brains’ remained, by their active participation in various sectors – science, ecological conservation, technological advancements, politics, governance and so on, things would have turned into a boon from a bane. The harsh truth is that the lack of lucrative careers in our nation has led them to seek the same abroad, in nations which are progressing much more speedily because of these Indian individuals. Therefore, I strongly believe that India would do much better if it could retain these talented brains on its road to development.

Discipline shapes the future of a student

Good morning to respected Principal, teachers and my fellow students. I, Karuna Bajaj, would like to speak on the topic, “Discipline shapes the future of a student.”

Ancient Sanskrit texts have described the five aspects an ideal student must imbibe – hard work, concentration, alertness, fitness and abstinence from materialisations. If we are to use one word as replacement of all the above, it would be discipline.

It is true that all of us aren’t born intelligent, neither do all of us have the same skills and talents. Yet, it is possible for each and everyone of us to come out with flying colours, by applying this single principle to our lives – discipline. A disciplined lifestyle for a student brings out the best in him, and guides him through his days to achieve the goals he has set for himself.

With discipline comes routine, change of attitude, patience and hard work, perseverance and tolerance – all the attributes that are required for a healthy body and mind. Discipline shapes the future of a student and helps him foster his dreams into reality.

Thank you.
