Iron and steel industry is the basic industry since all the other industries depend on it for their machinery. Iron and Steel industries are located near to iron and coal deposits because:

i. The low cost of iron ore

ii. The proximity to high-grade raw materials

iii. Availability of cheap labour

iv. Potential for vast growth in the home market
