Q5 of 10 Page 137

Did the Indian weavers prosper with expansion in production in the 20th century?

The effects of the expansion of trade on Indian weavers in the 20th century were as follows:

• The entire families were involved in the production.

• A large amount of hand-made produce faced fluctuated demands as the economy was unstable.

• The handloom produce saw steady expansion.

• New technologies, especially fly-looms were introduced in industries to increase production in a shorter time.

• This led to a decline in the cost of hand-made products to reasonable and affordable rates.

• WWI helped in the expansion of native industries.

Thus we can say that the Indian weavers prospered steadily with expansion in production in the 20th century.
