What is the reason behind the evolution of a multi-party system in India? Give one advantage of this system.

A multi-party system is a system in which different parties compete for each other for holding power, and more than two parties have a strong chance of coming to power either on their own strength or with an alliance with each other.

The multi-party system was introduced in India to promote the concept of popular participation and equal representation of all the sections of the society.
