a. The canal has two different irrigation system- flow system/ underflow and lift system / underlift. 70% of the land of the command area is irrigated by the flow system and the remaining 30% is irrigated by the lift system. All the lift channels of Indira Gandhi Canal system originate at the left bank of the main canal while the canals on the right bank of the main Canal are flow canals.

b. The four districts that are benefited by the command area of the canal


in stage I and stage II are Ganganagar, hanumangarh, northern parts of Jaisalmer and Bikaner district, and Bikaner, jodhpur, Barmer and Churu District respectively.
