Solve 2x + 3y = 11 and x – 2y = -12 algebraically and hence find the value of ‘m’ for which y = mx + 3.

⇒ 2x + 3y = 11 … (1)


⇒ x – 2y = -12 … (2)


(2) × 2 gives us,


⇒ 2x – 4y = -24 … (3)


(1) – (3),


⇒ 7y = 35


⇒ y = 5, x = -2


Substituting in y = mx + 3,


⇒ 5 = -2m + 3


⇒ m = -1
