The main reason for establishing the first cotton textile mills in Mumbai was that it was situated very close to the cotton-producing areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra. This was a great advantage because raw cotton, which could be easily brought from nearby places, reduced the time to bring in the raw cotton to Mumbai and also it could be brought at lower transportation costs from the nearby locations.
