The major factors which have helped in the development of the Hugli industrial region are listed below:

• As it is located near the Hugli River, the industries have easy access to water resource, required for their production.

• Cheap labour is available from regions like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa which could be used up for industrial production.

• Opening up of port in Hugli River could help in the easy transportation of finished products to different parts of India as well as to other countries.

• Kolkata was very well connected through roadways and railways, which helped in the easy bringing of raw materials from different parts of the country to this industrial zone.
