Classify ports into two types on the basis of their location. Explain features of each type.

Classifications of the ports on the basis of the location are as follows:-

• Inland Ports- These are the types of ports which are located away from the sea coasts. They are linked to the sea by a river or a canal. These ports are accessible to flat bottom ships and barges.

• Out Ports- These are deepwater ports built away from actual ports. These serve the parent ports by receiving those ships which are unable to approach them due to large size. Example- Athens and its out port in Greece.
