‘There is no consensus on what exactly defines a village or town’. Analyse the statement.

The settlements are divided into two types based on the location and facilities i.e. rural and urban, but there is no consensus.

Population is not a factor which distinguishes rural and urban settlements as many villages of India and China have a much greater population than in towns.


People living in villages have occupation like agriculture, fishing, and animal husbandry but in many developed countries, a large number of people prefer to live in rural settlements although they work in cities.
