How would you justify the study of human settlements in human geography?

The study of human settlements is basic to human geography because the form of settlement in any particular region reflects the human relationship with the environment. The type people choose the human settlements i.e. rural or urban depends upon their occupation, and the location of the place is determined by the physical, economic and social factors. As it reflects and is deeply affected by the interrelation between human and the physical world, it becomes an important part of human geography.
