Q3 of 26 Page 1

What is the role of desorption in the process of catalysis?

Desorption is the process when the products formed on the surface of adsorbent are released from there. It is opposite of sorption.

Desorption plays an important role in catalysis because when the formed products will diffuse from the surface of adsorbent then only new adsorbate molecules will be adsorbed on adsorbent for further reaction and the process will be able to continue. Desorption makes the surface available for fresh adsorbate molecules for the reaction to take place.
