Q24 of 47 Page 1

Define the following terms with a suitable example of each :

a. Anomers

b. Essential amino acids

c. Denaturation of protein

a. Anomers: These are the hemi-acetal forms of glucose which differ in the configuration at C1 of hydroxyl group. Ex- α -glucose and β-glucose.

b. Essential Amino Acids: The amino acid which do not get synthesised by our body and must be obtained from food are called essential amino acid. Ex-Valine.

c. Denaturation of protein: When native protein is subjected to change in temperature and pH, then it loses its biological activity. This process is called denaturation of proteins. Ex- Curdling of milk.

a. Define order of reaction. How does order of a reaction differ from molecularity for a complex reaction?

b. A first order reaction is 50% complete in 25 minutes. Calculate the time for 80% completion of the reaction.

a. The decomposition of a hydrocarbon has value of rate constant as 2.5 × 104 s-1 at 27oC. At what temperature would rate constant be7.5 × 104 s-1 if energy of activation is 19.147 × 103 J mol-1?

b. Write a condition under which a bimolecular reaction is kinetically first order. Give an example of such a reaction.
(Given: log 2 = 0.3010, log 3 = 0.4771, log 5 = 0.6990)
