Q8 of 30 Page 1

When a small amount of acid is added to water, the phenomena which occur are :

(A) Dilution

(B) Neutralisation

(C) Formation of H3 O+ ions

(D) Salt formation The correct statements are :

When there is an addition of a small amount of acid to the water, the phenomenon of ionization of the added acid along with the dilution of the acid takes place by the water. On adding the acid into the water, acid gets ionized and breaks down into ions, with that there is also seen a dilution of acid as water-soluble acids get hydrogen bonded and get diluted.

Example: HCl + H2O = H3O+ + Cl-
