i. Peggy justified her cruel behaviour towards Wanda by giving reasons such as she felt Wanda had lied about her dresses, she wasn’t an ordinary girl as she had a funny name and she believed that she was just having fun and didn’t mean any harm to her.


ii. Custard, who was always teased as being the cowardly one, by all others, stood up to fight with the pirate, while the others ran away to hide.


iii. According to Nelson Mandela, a courageous man is not someone who doesn’t experience fear, someone who doesn’t give in to it and the one who wins over fear.



(B)


i. Oliver Lutkin’s mother laughed as she chased him and Bill away because she knew her son Lutkins was pretending to be Bill and the narrator’s predicament amused her.


ii. It was important for Mrs. Pumphrey to be a little cruel in order to be kind towards Tricki because she was overfeeding Tricki and being overindulgent which had made him fat and lethargic so much so that his health was being spoiled. She needed to cut down Tricki’s food intake to help him regain his health (be cruel to be kind).


iii. Bholi's teacher in the school is a very kind and affectionate human being. She encouraged Bholi a lot and helped her in overcoming her speech disorder and her weaknesses. She trained her in speaking without any pause and made her believe in herself.
