Characteristics of Kandla seaport:

1. Kandla in Kuchchh was the first port developed soon after independence to ease the volume of trade on Mumbai port.

2. It was developed in the wake of the loss of Karachi port to Pakistan after the partition of British India.

3. It caters to the convenient handling of exports and imports of highly productive granary and industrial belt stretching across the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

NOTE – A seaport, in simplest terms, refers to the location of a city or town having one or more harbours wherein ships can dock in order to transfer people as well as cargo (goods) from place to place.
