For explaining the concept of competing interests we will take the example of a factory, which is closed because it emits toxic waste that affects the health of all around it. It is done for the safety of people in society, but as every coin has two sides. It results in –

•Workers lose their job

•Relocation may not always be beneficial / profitable.
