Point M is the midpoint of seg AB. If AB = 8 then find the length of AM.

Since M is the midpoint of seg AB.

Therefore seg AM seg MB, i.e. seg AM = seg MB ……….(i)


Also, we know that


For any three distinct collinear points P, Q and R, the point Q is said to be in between P and R if


d (P, Q) + d (Q, R) = d (P, R), or


l (PQ) + l (QR) = l (PR)


So, seg AB = seg AM + seg MB


seg AB = 2 seg AM [Using (i)]



So, seg AM = 4
