The distance between the given pairs is as follows:

i. 3, 6


We know that 6 > 3, so


The required distance is 6 – 3 = 3.


ii. -9, -1


We know that -1 > -9, so


The required distance is -1 – (-9) = -1 + 9 = 8.


iii. -4, 5


We know that 5 > -4, so


The required distance is 5 – (-4) = 5 + 4 = 9.


iv. x, -2


Here, we consider two cases:


Case I When x > -2, then


The required distance is x – (-2) = x + 2.


Case II When -2 > x, then


The required distance is -2 – x.
