(a) Human Rights refer to the rights of every person to a dignified life and opportunities to develop himself without any discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, caste, creed, nationality etc. Human rights are essential to ensuring a quality life for each and every individual. Right to freedom of expression, right to acquiring nationality, right to asylum etc. are some important Human rights.


(b) Human Rights are universal in nature, i.e. neither can a government, organization or individual can bestow these rights nor can it be taken away. People have Humans Rights from their birth itself and no authority can challenge it. The UN Declaration of Human Rights (1948) mandates its member countries to work towards preservation of human rights in their respective states. India has established the National Human Rights Commission (1993) for the same.
