Solve for x and y if

Since given is the matrix equation we would equate the right hand side elements with left hand side elements

2x + y = 5 …1


and x – 3y = 13 ….2


Multiplying equation 2 by 2


we get (x – 3y = 13 ) 2


2x – 6y = 26 ….3


Subtracting equation 1 and 3

Y = – 3


Substituting value of y in 1


2x – 3 = 5 2x = 8 x = 4


Hence the solution is x = 4 and y = – 3
