Fill in the blanks

i. The perpendicular to the mirror at the point of incidence is called............

ii. The reflection of light from a wooden surface is.............. reflection.

iii. The working of Kaleidoscope is based on the properties of ..............

i. Normal

Explanation: Normal is perpendicular to the mirror. It makes an angle of 900 with the mirror. And on striking the mirror it is reflected back at the same path (perpendicular to the mirror).

The figure below shows the normal to the mirror.

ii. Irregular/Diffused.

Explanation: When a parallel ray of light after striking the surface gets reflected in all directions instead of going in a particular direction, this reflection is called as irregular/diffused reflection. The figure below illustrates the irregular reflection.

Irregular reflection takes place from the rough surfaces like wood, paper, stones etc.

iii. Multiple Reflections

Explanation: Kaleidoscope works on the principle of multiple reflections. When two or more mirrors are placed at an angle to one another and when the eye is placed at one end of mirror the original view from the aperture on other side is multiplied into a symmetrical pattern.

The figure below shows the Kaleidoscope
