Study the following incident. Swara and Yash were looking in a water filled vessel. They could see their images clearly in the still water. At that instant, Yash threw a stone in the water. Now their images were blurred. Swara could not understand the reason for the blurring of the images. Explain the reason for blurring of the images to Swara by answering the following question.

i. Is there a relation between the reflection of light and the blurring of the images?

ii. Which types of reflection of light can you notice from this?

iii. Are laws of reflection followed in these types of reflection?

i. Yes when Yash threw a stone in water the still water gets disturbed due to which light rays do not undergo uniform reflection and light rays coming from gets reflected in random directions which our eye can't catch at a time due to which we get the blurred image.

ii. We notice the Irregular reflection of light because we are getting the blurred image. And in irregular reflection, we get a blurred image because the reflected light rays do not go in a particular direction.

The figure below shows an irregular reflection.

iii.Yes Laws of reflection are followed in Irregular reflection. Irregular reflection occurs only because the surface is rough, the nature of light does not cause the irregular reflection.
